21st century and we are still driven by caste systems!!
Man has reached Mars and still on Earth we treat each other as creatures!!
Spiritualism is gaining momentum and still we look down upon others!!
Oh! Jesus, I sometime wonder, are we moving ahead or going back. We are losing respect for each other. We are still following the mistakes committed by our fore-fathers. Sitting in a merc, we are still driving those 100-year old thoughts. The modernization has taken place in the world, but it is yet to reach our minds, our souls.
In this blog, I have picked up the reservation issue. Just trying to put together my thoughts on the issue. I have nothing to say against the needy but for any undue demand, my pen will write a thousand times, a thousand words.
Is reservation a NECESSITY or POLITICS.
Reservation is still the need of the hour but how long should it exist? When such people were given privilege, it was also the need of that hour. When I talk about ‘such’ people, I do not mean to hurt any sentiments, nor do I intend to kick any self-respect. This is a term not coined by me but people like me. I as a human being do not support this and never will.
My granny used to tell me, when I went out with my ‘so-called’ OBC neighbour, that I must not shake hands with her for the reason that she belongs to a lower caste. I always wondered what is there in her hands that might affect me if I shake hands with her. She never had any answers to my queries but I was to abide to her orders. Now, I think, I well understand her concerns. There is nothing that I might catch when I shake hands with her, again I will use that ‘so-called’ OBC girl. It was not she who told those words, it was the society that was speaking. She was merely a podium that was used to shout – “NO, NO, NO”.
There was a time when people were treated as under privileged and thus was a need to raise their status and standard of living. For years these people suffered through the atrocities of their own fellow beings for no reason. In order to bridge the divide that had come amongst us, the Government or rather the leaders of that era found it right to evolve policies that give these people some privilege and make them feel at ease. These policies were targeted to make this world a better place for living for 'so-called’ termed OBCs.
This caste system is a man’s discovery and so in no way account for any privileges. It is like hurting a man’s dignity and then making things by giving them some privileges.
I am again saying that I am not against reservation but any undue relaxations are not welcomed.
Awarding relaxation in marks is not justified because God did not gift anyone with less brain for a fact that they are OBCs or born in an under-privileged family. It is WE who made them so and now in order to rectify our own mistakes, we are committing more. We are alienating our own children, making them feel suffocated in their own world.
Financial assistance, and up to some extent age relaxation is acceptable (though I don’t support age relaxation). If a person is competent enough, no caste or no system can stop him to achieve success. Success doesn’t come by your caste. It is the fruit of your hard work. No organization decides on a candidate for the reason that the candidate is from general caste or from OBC. The selection is driven by your eligibility in terms of your skills. I don’t understand, why our society is still driven by such caste systems.
A below average OBC student can stand equivalent to an 80% scorer. And this is because he/she is an UNDERPRIVILEGED student. I sometimes wonder, why am I not one of those underprivileged privileged person. See the contrast in the term I used an PRIVILEGED UNDER-PRIVILEGED person.
I have spent 14 years in school, 3 years in graduation, 6 months in PGD and now have been working for almost 8 months, it never came to my mind that the one sitting next to me may be an under-privileged person. Why?? Why are not my thoughts driven by such society opinions. Am I not one of them?? Or may be the answer to this is – “I perhaps have nothing to gain from this issue.”
No child is born with a mark that says “Hey listen I am under-privileged”. It is we who categorise them so. Now instead of rising above such nuisance, we in the 21st century are creating more. We are making situations worse for ourselves to survive in the world. Why arn't we afraid of the results of our selfishness. Who are we to term God’s creation as underprivileged, when we ourselves are one.
Friends, we are the future of this world. Let’s rise above the mistakes.Let’s eradicate this system of calling your fellow beings as underprivileged. No skin colour, no birth place, nothing can designate you with terms as SC/ST/OBC or underprivileged. There is nothing like this exits, its all in the minds.
WAKE UP FRIENDS. THE WOR(L)D IS CALLING YOU.
